Mental Illness Education ACT (MIEACT)

Mental Illness Education ACT (MIEACT) is the primary local mental health and well-being education provider for workplaces, community groups and secondary schools across the Canberra region and surrounding area.

MIEACT deliveres evidence-informed programs, partnered with lived experience stories that increase mental health literacy, promote early intervention, reduce stigma and emphasise recovery.

Working with Teachers and Principles, these programs are targeted to all students within specific age groups (Grades 5 & 6 and years 7, 8 & 9) within the Australian Capital Territory.

Brief

Jackett was asked to create an Interactive online Mental Health Program for young people aged between 10 and 15 years. Following this program’s immediate success Jackett was then asked to create an online resource and learning platform for Stress & Me, another MIEACT student initiative geared towards two age groups, grades 5 & 6 and the second is years 7, 8 & 9.

Outcomes

The significance of these resources cannot be understated, as they are now an integral part of the educational curriculum for every student in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). This widespread implementation showcases the commitment to equipping students with crucial skills and knowledge. Moreover, the potential for expansion beyond the ACT is promising, with the backing of the Federal Government, signaling a prospective transformation of the broader Australian schools network.

The foresight to integrate online metrics into the program reflects a strategic approach, allowing for comprehensive tracking of online engagement and interaction, and providing valuable insights into student engagement and the effectiveness of the curriculum. It's noteworthy that the proactive approach doesn't stop here – plans to further enhance the Stress and Me program demonstrate an ongoing dedication to ensuring that the content remains relevant, accurate, and impactful, cementing its role as an evolving and invaluable educational resource.
